My preferred medium is watercolour, and I also love to draw as this sharpens my observational skills. My sketchbooks which date back to 1963 are a personal record of places visited, each one brings back a memory of that particular day, where I was, what the weather was like and who I was with.
Living near the river Humber with its busy port, ships and old naval buildings plus being close to the North Sea with a very special atmospheric spit of land called Spurn Point is truly inspirational. I paint the coastline in all of its conditions and weathers; it never ceases to create new ideas for paintings.
Over the years I have taught on cruise ships, been a travelling tutor for the the Women’s Institute, demonstrated to art groups, and had one-person exhibitions. I teach from my studio in Patrington as well as in local village halls. I love to do all-day watercolour workshops, because this way I can teach and demonstrate a particular method or technique and the students absorb more than in a 2-hour lesson.
