I’ve always been interested in art, although without any formal qualifications except for ‘O’ level. Since retirement I have been able to spend time visiting art galleries, taking lessons, going on art holidays, painting and generally becoming immersed in the subject.
After trying most mediums and subjects I return regularly to my favourite: oils. I’m willing to have a stab at any subject (within reason) but lean towards ‘scapes’ – garden, city, sea and land – plus animals and life drawing when possible.
My favourite art-related sayings are, “There’s always another piece of paper” and “The only rule is – there are no rules”. Also, I’m happy to work from photographs; if such copying was outlawed 90% of amateur/hobby painters would give up!
